Boy Oh Boyers

Rowan's preschool held group pictures a few weeks ago. Rowan was overdue for a haircut, so his teacher's attempt to tame his hair involved styling it in a way that it had never before been styled (and probably never will be again, at least not by me). However, I was overwhelmed at the cuteness of this photo -- I really don't know how the photographer got that smile out of him! Absolutely, totally handsome. :)

By the way, I am happy to report that Rowan remains completely in love with his preschool. His teacher this year was amazing, and I think next year's will be too. Rowan is definitely bilingual now, speaking Spanish naturally with his classmates and teachers, though more reluctantly with his mother whose accent and grammatical mistakes probably pain him, so he often just says, "Mommy, please say that in English." It's really thrilling to hear him engage with others in a second language, though, and even more thrilling that he actively wants to continue learning languages. When I asked him what kind of kindergarten he wants to go to, he said one where he can learn to speak many languages! I'm pretty happy that in this lovely area where we are blessed to live, we might just be able to fill that request! Boy oh boy, it's time to start touring potential elementary schools. Hang on while my head spins for a while! :)

I had to go to Portland, Oregon for a conference. Rowan flew with me as far as Atlanta, where Gram picked him up at the airport. Then I continued on to Portland from there. We left last Thursday on an early-ish flight, but it was no trouble getting Rowan up -- he was awake at 5:30am and shouting that he was ready to get on the plane! He wanted to push his own suitcase through the airport, despite toppling over it more than once when he hit seams in the floor. He also wanted to hold his own boarding pass, do everything during security screening on his own, and operate his own plane tray table, thank you very much. Because we're in different states right now and I'm pretty busy, there's probably going to be a lapse in pictures of the day for a while. Here's an adorable (though quite blurry, sorry) shot of him in line to be security screened. That's his boarding pass he's holding next to his head. Don't ask me why. :)
